About / One Health

The ‘One Health’ concept is a holistic, multi-, inter- and transdisciplinary approach of health, which recognises that human, animal and environmental health are closely intertwined and interdependent.

The One Health High-Level Expert Panel (OHHLEP) of the Quadripartite (WHO, WOAH, FAO, and UNEP) has developed a widely accepted One Health definition, which is also subscribed by the Belgian One Health network (BeOH).

About / the Belgian One Health network

The BeOH network was launched in 2019. Its aim is to support collaboration, capacity building and communication among Belgian actors.

In 2023 it developed its vision and missions with the support of its Coordination Team, composed of experts from different research organisations as well as policy makers and other stakeholders.

Events

Since its launch, BeOH has organised several events and activities. In January 2024, there was a workshop on Innovation in sensors to detect pathogens in wastewater and air. In January 2025 a two-day event will be organised on the importance of ecosystems in One Health.

The BeOH community has published numerous papers in the context of One Health, including on COVID-19.

Partners

The founding partners of the BeOH network are the Belgian Biodiversity Platform, the Federal Public Service Health, Food Chain Safety and Environment, and Sciensano.

The BeOH network is active in several national and international One Health networks. So far it has formally partnered up with the Belgian PREZODE Expert Group, Be-cause health, and the One Sustainable Health Forum.
